But the minds behind the new development in the West Don Lands believe they are going to accomplish just that. We loved it so much we will definitely book another Riu for our next holiday.It seems like a daunting challenge: Take a parcel of derelict land on the east side of Toronto's core that has sat unused for more than 40 years, and transform it into an urban community that rivals the city's most thriving neighbourhoods.
This would be my only very minor comment that it should be included with dinner too. Water is freely available at breakfast but you have to pay for it at dinner. But did enjoy a daily cocktail! After drinking the tap water for two days I finally saw the small sign in the bathroom saying it was not safe to drink! So we started to buy water from the supermarket which was much cheaper than the hotel. With the huge amount of food available for breakfast and dinner we found we didn't want lunch. There is a lovely beach bar on the sea front of the hotel and one by the pool too. The sea was a similar temperature and was nice to easily go and have a dip there too. They didn't put the children off but I didn't swim as much as I might have. Quite often by people you didn't actually see until midday so they must have been getting up and going back to bed! The pools are beautiful but on the cool side. There are plenty of sunbeds but we found they were being reserved very early in the morning. Everyone, with no exception, wore their masks around the hotel and when moving around the dining room. The food at the buffets is fabulous with so much choice and all made to a high standard. The views from the hotel are stunning with lovely evening sunsets. There are a couple of supermarkets within a few minutes walk.
In a great position on the sea front with easy walking in either direction along the coast. The room was spacious and exactly what we needed. We booked a family suit which had two bedrooms and one bathroom with a large balcony. Every single member of staff that we met was the same. Made us feel welcome and as if nothing was too much trouble. They were always very friendly and polite. We were not disappointed! The hotel staff are absolutely amazing and really made the holiday for us. Our first experience of Riu and first experience of October sun.
